This class will focus on surface embellishment of pierced metal and how to design those elements specifically for your body. Laura will take students through the process of fabricating work that carefully considers the human form and how a piece of jewelry can complement a certain area of the body. Techniques covered in this workshop will include stone setting, color application and texture, as well as engineering findings for a cohesive design. These techniques can be applied to the creation of a range of pieces including necklaces and earrings. Students can expect to leave with at least one finished piece as well as multiple samples for future projects.
Weather permitting, Laura will be demonstrating powder coating techniques including application and firing. This process is best done in an outdoor space, so students will have the opportunity to watch demonstrations and have the option to try the technique themselves, only if weather permits. Powder coating materials will available for use and a small usage fee can be made payable to Laura in class.
